German Butter Cake

This is a fast, easy and simple cake that my Mom used to make and we gobbled it up pretty quick! I had to get the recipe from my sister Ellen. I use it today for parties because it is so easy!

Jewish Apple Cake

Here is another favorite of mine that is great during apple harvest time and just plain any time! I made one for the surgical staff at Johns Hopkins Hospital. They put my defibrillator devise implant in for me so, in appreciation for their fine abilities and genuine friendliness, I baked them a cake and brought it to them.

Nan's Pound Cake

This recipe comes from Linda Gauger's Mom, Bessie Cronshaw, better known to all of us as Nan. It is a delicious pound cake that will just melt in your mouth.

Fruit Pizza

Here is my Mother's famous Fruit Pizza recipe. Mom was a terrific cook! There is just not a recipe for Fruit Pizza that is better anywhere! This has also become a favorite at our 4th of July reunions and a favorite at my church as well and once you've tried it, you will know why. It is worth all the effort!

Lemon Poppy Seed Cake

Next, a good cake to take places!! This cake actually tastes like a cheese cake but lighter and is sure to please any lemon lover. It is one I have been baking for years and always surprises your mouth. I baked it for my Brother Gene's friend Mike, one year for Christmas, because he ranted and raved about it so much!

German Chocolate Wine cake (must use metric measuring cup)

This next cake is very different from any other chocolate cake you have ever tasted. The recipe comes from my Aunt (Tante) Rosie, my Mother's younger sister. It was my Fathers most favorite cake next to the German Chocolate Butter Cream cake my Mother used to bake for him. It is light and indescribably delicious! It does take some effort, though.

Funnel Cake

Remember the wonderful funnel cakes you get at the carnivals and fairs?  Well I found the recipe and I'll share it with you.  This one is so much fun.  I always make it for my Grandson Josh when he brings a group of friends home to play.  We have raised him from birth and love him to pieces.  He and his friends like to put cherry and blueberry pie filling on it.  It is also a big hit for my husband, the "big kid", at heart!

Pie Crust

Some people can not roll out pie dough no matter how hard they try.  I have found a pie crust recipe that comes from my Mother in law Virginia Lutz that truly is "as easy as pie"!  It never, ever fails!  Comes out flaky and light every time and is very simple.  I use it for all my pies and even for Pot pie which will be added to this list soon.  My Mother in law had a sweet spirit and was full of grace and considered me the daughter she never had.  She's with the Lord now, but I still miss her so much.

Glorious Sponge Cake (Diabetic)

This is an award winning recipe from Caroline York from Penobscot, Maine.  It is a great cake that diabetics can eat, as well as Angle Cake.  I love it and Caroline won several fair prizes with it.  It is light and delicious!  I also cut the recipe in half for a German glazed fruit flan which tastes much more fresh than the ones you buy at the local market.

Pumpkin Pie

Well, I've given you my pie crust recipe and I think I should now give you something to put in it.  I love Pumpkin Pie but I don't like it when it looks so dark that it starts looking a sick green color and tastes so strong from too many spices.  I like mine mild and creamy with just the right amount of spice.  This is an Amy Vanderbuilt recipe that I slightly adapted to suit me and everyone seems to love it.

New York Cheese Cake

Everybody has a favorite cheese cake recipe and here is one of mine.  It is delicious and one of my daughter Melissa's favorites in the world!  I love cheese cakes of every kind and flavor!  They are my favorite cakes and I have a cook book of nothing but all kinds of cheese cakes and I use it often.  I will share a special one with you, next.

Lime Cheese Cake

This is one of my favorite cheese cakes.  It is light, cool and refreshing.  A great recipe for the summer when you need something cool and refreshing.  The taste is mild and not strong like you would expect in a Key Lime Pie.  It is always a hit at my house.

Lemon Meringue Pie

This is my favorite lemon meringue pie recipe because it is not too strong.  I love the flavor of lemon but when it makes your mouth pucker, it is too strong, in my opinion.  My daughter, Melissa loves this pie!

Old Fashioned Fruit Cobbler

This recipe is the real McCoy!  It comes from Mrs. Homer Cook and is the best cobbler any where!  My Dad had a sour cherry tree and used to pick a bucket or two for me so that I could make him some cobbler every summer, and I would freeze the rest for winter use.  I also like using fresh peaches with a touch of cinnamon for this cobbler.  I have served it many, many times at our Bible class.

Best Carrot Cake

This recipe comes from my friend Pam Osteria.  It is the best I've ever tasted.  I try to bake it for my sister in law, Wilma, when it is her Birthday because she loves it so much.  Give it a try!  It is so moist!  You'll love it!

Pound Cake

This recipe comes from my sister Ute's friend who shared it with us.  The flavor is slightly different but very Yummy!  Melts in your mouth!  Pound cake is a classic that is always good.

Apple Strudel (Wiener Apfelstrudel)

I have the original German recipe for you but also a quickie one that I invented because of the work involved in the old version.  Let's face it, we don't have as much time as our forefathers did or as much patience as they did to make such an involved recipe.  If you are up to it, try the old way and if not try my easy way out!

Whipped Cream Slices (Sahne-Cremeschnitten)

This recipe is my all time favorite German pastry.  I absolutely love everything about it.  It is creamy and slightly fruity and melts in your mouth.  I only make it for special occasions or when there is a very special guest coming to dinner that I am trying to impress.  It looks hard but it really is not that difficult to make and the results are fabulous!

German Doughnuts (Krapfen)

I love these light and delicious doughnuts.  They can also be made round with out holes for filling with jelly or fruit filling or pudding and custard.  You can try them any way you like and they will taste great.  My mom always made them as rings with holes and used only white sugar to dress them up.  She would make a huge plate of them for special occasions.  Where we come from in Germany we just called them Krepeln.  Nellie Fadeley and I made a batch for Bible class one day and they were a big success.

Mini Cheese cakes

This recipe is wonderful for parties, Bible class, teas, showers, you name it.  I like to make them with different fruit toppings.  They are so easy to make and almost full proof.  There are also so many nice variations to the recipe.  A great little treat for any time!

German Chocolate Upside Down Cake

This is a simple cake that looks and tastes like you went to a whole lot of trouble to make but really is so simple.  Made with a mix and ready made frosting.  What could be easier than that?

Chocolate Éclair Cake (Low Sugar)

Here is another very easy recipe for those times when you need to make your dessert ahead of your meal for the sake of time.  It can be made 24 hours before you need it.  You can also substitute the pudding for sugar free pudding for those of us watching our weight or our sugar intake.  It's just plain delicious!

Pumpkin Cheese Roll

This recipe comes from my friend Jane.  It is moist and delicious and makes a great gift.  I like to bake it in the fall of the year when pumpkin dishes are all the rage and also at Christmas time.  It's a great dessert to serve after your Thanks Giving meal.

Glazed Plums and Almond Puff Pastry

Here is a quick and easy recipe that is great for the summer when plums are readily available.  So delicious and refreshingly different.  Give it a try and you won't be sorry!

Basic Yellow Layer Cake

This is my recipe for a basic yellow cake.  I have used it for wedding cakes and for simple things like cup cakes.  It always seems to turn out right and it's not too heavy.  I have also included my Yellow Cake Deluxe recipe with the lemon filling and boiled icing with sprinkled cocoanut.

Pumpkin Ribbon Cake

This is an easy recipe for a special cake.  It is a moist pumpkin cake with a cream cheese filling.  This cake is moist and yet very mild.  It makes a great presentation with the sprinkled powdered sugar, especially if you use a pattern, like that from a lace doily or, cut out your own snow flake pattern from paper like we used to do in school.  Just remember the lacier the better.

 Apples Bundles

Here is a simple little recipe that even a child could put together.  A dessert that looks like you spent hours making yet takes so little time and effort.  It yields 12 servings so that makes it a good one for company as well.  Easy as one, two, three!

Fruity Angel Cake ( for diabetics )

Here is a really simply recipe for diabetics or others that want to watch their figure.  Light and delicious this cake is sure to be a success.  You can make it with fresh raspberries or with mandarin oranges, either way it is a real treat.

Filled Angel Roll (For Diabetics)

This is a quick and easy recipe that is so delicious and a good one for diabetics as well.  Looks like you went through a whole lot of trouble and really didn't.  There are 2 variations and both are so good.

Mini Napoleons

Here is another fine recipe for puff pastry dough.  Very easy to make and simply delicious.  I love working with puff pastry.  There are so many things you can do with it and with such little effort.  Try these, you'll love them!

Streusel Berry Tart

Here is a recipe for a real quick version of a cherry, berry pie that bakes up flat like a pizza and in half the time.  It tastes great and you can use ready made pie crust dough to speed up things even more.  Serve it hot. right out of the oven with a dollop of whipping cream or a scoop of your favorite vanilla ice cream.  Yum yum!!

Pastry twists

Here is another wonderful recipe using puff pastry.  These sticks are sure to be a success at any gathering and kids seem to think they are a lot of fun.  The Parmesan cheese flavored twists are also great with spaghetti and meat balls.  An easy recipe to make and very tasty.

Diet Cherry Jell-O Cake

Here is an "oh so easy" cake that tastes like it's loaded with calories but it's not.  I love to take this one to church socials with me for those of us who are watching our sugar intake.  This cake is always a crowd pleaser.

Peachy Blueberry Pie

Two wonderful fruits combined make up this delicious pie.  A scoop of your favorite vanilla bean ice cream on top will complete the taste!

Mini Puff Pastry Turnovers

I love to work with puff pastry dough, especially when it's already made for you.  Pepperidge Farm pastry sheets are my favorite ones to use.  These fruit turnovers are as easy as pie and taste like they came from an expensive pastry shop!  Give them a try!

Sour Cream Apple Tatin

Here is a great upside-down apple tatin that is out of this world with flavor.  You will really impress your dinner guests with this lovely apple cake.  It is fairly easy to make and does not take too much time to prepare.  It is made with Granny Smith apples that can be found at your super market year round.

German Butter Cream Tort

My Fathers all time favorite cake was the German Butter Cream Tort.  My Mom would make both a vanilla and chocolate version for him.  She always used her own jellies and preserves for the bottom layer as well.  She made all different kinds of homemade jellies and preserves and her very own German pickle as well.  I will divulge the secret to her German pickles in another recipe in the miscellaneous section.  I will also give you her Plum butter recipe.  We called it "Zuetchgenmus".

Candy Bar Cake

This is a very easy recipe that I borrowed from my friend Judy McQiggan.  I watched her make this icing and thought it would work well with German Chocolate cake so I gave it a try and it was a winner.  Kids love it cause it's made with candy bars and big kids like it, too!

Pineapple Crumble Pizza Pie

This is a desert I invented for my son Billy.  He was hyperactive when he was young and was put on a strict diet that included only fruits such as pineapple, lemon and blueberries for the first month or so.  So I invented a form of pineapple pie that has been a favorite in my family for years now.  Give it a try and you'll agree that it's simply delicious served hot right out of the oven with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top.

Strawberry Whipped Cream Tort, or Raspberry Tort

This wonderful tort is one that I invented myself out of common products found in any grocery store.  It is so easy and it looks like it came from the showcase of the best bakery in town and is so delicious.  When strawberries are in season there is nothing like it.  It's just so delicious!  Give it a try when you want to impress guests!

Scrumptious Chocolate Cake

This has got to be one of the best chocolate cakes I have ever eaten!  It is simple to make and so fudgey.  This recipe comes from my sister Ute by via of my sister Ellen.  I could never track down Ute long enough to get the recipe from her so Ellen gave it to me a few weeks ago after I begged long and hard for it.  Really, it is that good!  The flavor is between a fudgey brownie and a Texas chocolate sheet cake.  You won't be sorry you tried this one.

Old Fashioned Apple Pie

There isn’t a cook anywhere that shouldn’t have this recipe.  It is an old fashioned standard that is sure to please almost anyone.  By now you’ve probably picked up on the fact that my husband really doesn’t have a favorite but, that all my cooking and baking is his favorite.  My Steel Guitar player Earl Sexton gets a fresh apple or other pie delivered to his house every time he completes some of my music tracks.  It is one of his favorite pies.

Five minute Chocolate Mug Cake

Here's a fun recipe to make when those chocolate cravings get to you.  It comes from my sister Karen and it sounds like fun.  I haven't tried it yet but I am about to, the next time a chocolate craving hits me.  Have fun with this one and thanks Karen for always sending me the craziest recipes.  And why is this the most dangerous cake recipe in the world?
Because now we are all only 5 minutes away from chocolate cake at any time of the day or night!
